Sergei Troubetzkoy Director of Tourism will present this free talk on the Industrial Revolution which had an enormous impact on the iron industry during the 19th century, and nearly eliminated the important role once played by Blacksmiths. Iron became the ?experimental? metal of the century, the way that ?aluminum? would become the ?experimental? metal of the 20th century. This presentation will examine the Blacksmith trade and how technology transformed the manufacturing processes during the 19th century for the production of iron and how these advances allowed for new- found uses for this metal.
